I love music. It is elemental in my everyday life, an essential part of what makes me who I am, and quite honestly; crucial to my survival. You see, I am stricken with a deadly disease, one so ruthless that If I were to go without music for more than one hour, my respiratory system would malfunction, my heart would stop beating, and I would implode within myself, much like Obi Wan Kenobi did when he was struck by Darth Vader in the first Star Wars. It's not a pretty sight. To survive I have to replenish my body with a fresh new soundtrack every couple of weeks. School is an almost impossible feat. Everyone thinks I have some sort of bladder problem since I customarily run out of class in a hurried fashion. Kids crack jokes at me, teachers hate me, my ipod has to be charged at all times. There is no cure.
This year saw a great amount of songs being released, many of which I wish I could put in my top 10. The following were the ones that I liked the most, the blood in my veins, the air in my lungs, the urinal at the end of the hall. You know, the one all the way in the back, so that only one person can be next to you if they were to pee at the same time. I find it uncomfortable peeing between 2 dudes at the same time. I don't know why, I've felt this way since I was a little kid, I'm sure many fellas out there feel the same way. Anyways, here they are: Honorable mentions would go to N.E.R.D., Supreeme, Kanye, BLU, UNI, the Grouch, Radiohead, Q-tip, Raphael Saadiq, Santogold, Portishead, Coldplay, Divide the Day, The Messenger, and Dance Gavin Dance.
10.Fleet Foxes- White Winter Hymnal
This song is huge.
9.88 Keys- True Feelings
Even though I like his album better, my favorite song was from his mixtape, Adams Case Files. Great beat, the Andrew Gold sample is BANANAS, rhymes could be better, but the lyrics really relate to what I went through the past year with the fairer sex.
8. Foals- Cassius
This band has garnered heavy comparisons to Bloc Party, but the catchiness of their off timed guitars does it all for me. Another tough decision since I really liked a lot of songs from their album.
7. Bon Iver- Stacks
This guy put out a great album, this was my favorite song out of the album. It was a tough decision.
6. Mystery Jets- Half In Love With Elizabeth
I love this band.
To see the rest of the list
5. Nas- N.I.*.*.E.R.(The Slave and the Master)
My favorite song off of the Untitled album by Nasty Nasir.
4. MURS- Breakup (the OJ song)
Murs Rules the World. He is better than your favorite rapper, your favorite rapper's favorite rapper. He is not better than my favorite rapper because he IS my favorite rapper. This is off of his major label debut off of Warner Brothers entitled MURS for President. It's a great album and this is my favorite song off of it.
3. N.E.R.D.- Everyone Nose Remix (feat Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco, and Pusha T)
The song of the summer of 2008. What's not to like about it? It has 3 of my favorite rappers in it. Kanye makes me laugh, Lupe kills it, and Pusha murders everybody.
2. MURS- Nina Ross
What can I say about MURS? I love this man. He has everything! Masterful storytelling? Check. Witty sense of humor? Check. RAW POWERFUL TALENT? Check. Cool Hair? Check. This song has all of that and more. The ending is priceless. Off of his FREE mixtape, Sweet Lord.
1. Kid CuDI- Day'n'Nite
Everytime I listen to this song, I will forever be reminded of my last months of high school. Ever since I first heard it in April, it was stuck in my mind. It is the song that reminds me of Kiwins Convention, Prom, Graduation, hanging with my homies, busting tricks all over my jawns. From April to July I played this song 200 times on my computer, excluding the 6 different remixes that came out for it. (Jim Jones rmx? Fuck out of here!) Also excluding the possibly 600 times I played it on my IPOd, parties, from my neighbor's house. This song is amazing, even though I am so FUCKING sick of hearing it. Anyways, they recently filmed the video for it after like 10 months and I can't be more stoked about it.
